There have been many times in my life that I’ve walked around with dread in the pit of my stomach. I’ve felt it as a student, walking into a challenging tests. I’ve felt it as a teacher, waiting for parent conferences that I knew were going to be difficult at best. I’ve felt it in hospital waiting rooms, before medical procedures that I knew were going to be invasive, painful, and frightening.
But I’ve never felt the dread that Jesus had at Gethsemane, waiting to be tortured and killed.
I only want to say
If there is a way
Take this cup away from me
For I don’t want to taste its poison
This song has always moved me with its humanity. It’s a stark reminder that even the Savior had to beat back fear and dread, hoping for some other way.  Here it is, sung by the Irish singer Colm Wilkinson (the actual song starts at around 0:38).Â
