Simple gifts

Two days into the Thanksgiving vacation, there have been lots of little moments to remember.  There was the fun of seeing my boys play with their cousins, whom they never get to see often enough.  There was the great visit with my sister, which happens far less often than I’d like.  There was the family dinner at my aunt’s house, where we all gathered around the table that once belonged to my grandparents.  There was a bike ride along the bay with my boys this morning, and the cozy experience of making gingersnaps with my eager five-year-old helper.

And if I had to pick a soundtrack for all of these simple moments, I can’t think of a better one than this beautiful section of Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring.   It always makes me think of home, and family, and the little graces of every day.

What are the simple gifts that you’ve received this Thanksgiving?
