There is nothing like a musical

51WuD9Uif5L._SL500_AA240_These days, there’s a new musical soundtrack that I am inflicting on sharing with my family.   It’s the recording of the current revival of South Pacific. Are you familiar with this musical?  It’s the one with the songs “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m in Love With a Wonderful Guy,” and “I’m Going to Wash That Man Right Out of my Hair” (I’m not sure I’ll ever forgive that durn hair color company for stealing that tune ).

Anyhow, I borrowed the CD from the library, and brought it along on our roadtrip to Southern CA last week.  And THAT, my friends, is the way to make time in the car pass  most agreeably.  At least, I think so.  My husband is not quite as gung-ho as I am about this whole musical thing.

But we have a rule: whoever drives picks the music.  And the CD  did make Lukey stop wailing as we barreled along the I-5.  After the first few bars of the overture, he was miraculously calm.  I consider that a shining testament to the genius of Rodgers and Hammerstein.  I mean, Tony awards are nice and all, but when your music soothes a cranky baby? — well, then you KNOW you’ve got a gift.

So yes, I’m enjoying the CD.  I will keep on doing so until 1) it’s due back at the library; or 2) my toddler surprises me by belting out “THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A DAME!”  That may be the signal to put South Pacific on hold for a while.
